Press Pass Mentors

Write Your Way To College

Press Pass Mentors is a writing-focused program for inner-city high school juniors and seniors who want to attend college. We pair each student in a one-on-one mentor relationship with a professional journalist and offer students behind-the-scenes field trips to places only accessible with a press pass, like the White House, The Kennedy Center and an NBA locker room.

We launched in the fall of 2011 with mentors from The Washington Post and now serve 15 students from charter schools in southeast Washington, D.C. Mentors guide students through a curriculum that prepares them for the major writing assignments on the road to college: the SAT, college applications and scholarship essays. We also award each of our graduates with a financial scholarship to cover some college costs.

Our non-profit program is a collaborative effort, and we need your help. Are you a prospective donor? An interested student or teacher? A potential mentor? We can’t wait to hear from you. Please explore the site and contact us at info@presspassmentors.org for more information.
